A little about the artist

These sculptural smoke fired clay tiles are made using a slab roller with hand cut templates pressed into the clay to produce the basic pattern. Textural detail is added by carving and a clay slip is applied for the semi-gloss surface. The black color and straw marks are the result of a post-firing technique which produces the highly irregular and uneven surface. Finished tiles are attached to wood mounts and stand out 2" from the wall.
